Adrian Appiolaza: The Creative Mind Behind Moschino’s Latest Collection
In January of this year, Adrian Appiolaza took on the role of creative director at Moschino. With four seasonal collections already under his belt, the Buenos Aires-born designer’s imaginative vision for the Italian fashion house is truly coming to life. His latest output, a multi-pronged Pre-Fall 2025 line, was shot by photographer Chris Rhodes at a villa outside of Milan, drawing inspiration from the British aristocracy.
At the grand property, Appiolaza’s fashion manifesto strikes a balance between playful and sophisticated. Formalwear is tailored to perfection, with plaid sports jackets, woolen overcoats, corduroy trousers, and straight dress pants fit for a royal affair. But the prints are where things get wild, with archival smiley faces and cloud designs adorning knit dresses and button-up tops. Accessories also embrace the label’s campy past, with fluffy pom-pom scarves, top-hat-shaped bags, and miniature books adding a touch of whimsy to the collection.
Appiolaza collaborated with Sanderson, a textile company that has been supplying fabrics, paints, and wallcoverings to the Royal Residences since 1924, to create the artful floral prints seen on suits, gowns, and bow-tied tops. And for a touch of nostalgia, simple landscape illustrations from House founder Franco Moschino’s archives are featured on youthful sweaters and oversized shirts.
The overall result is a Pre-Fall 2025 collection that is both elegant and grand, yet refreshingly ordinary. The final look perfectly encapsulates this, with a sweater boldly stating “Hard Times” paired with a ruffled white skirt and an over-the-top yellow crown.
