On Monday evening, the British Fashion Council (BFC) set the stage for a night of glitz and glamour as they lowered a red disco ball inside the iconic Royal Albert Hall. The highly anticipated 2024 Fashion Awards were about to begin, and the fashion world was buzzing with excitement.

The BFC Foundation Award, which recognizes designers who are currently receiving support from the Foundation’s core initiatives, was presented to Chopova Lowena. The talented designer beat out other nominees such as Aaron Esh, Bianca Saunders, Labrum London, and Tolu Coker.

The New Establishment Menswear award was given to Priya Ahluwalia for her brand Ahluwalia, while the New Establishment Womenswear award went to Marco Capaldo for 16Arlington. Both designers were up against tough competition, but their unique and innovative designs stood out to the judges.
Grace Wales Bonner and Simone Rocha Win Big in Designer Categories
Grace Wales Bonner was named British Menswear Designer of the Year for her brand Wales Bonner, beating out other notable names such as Craig Green, Jonathan Anderson, Kiko Kostadinov, Kim Jones, and Martine Rose. Meanwhile, Simone Rocha took home the award for British Womenswear Designer of the Year, triumphing over Erdem Moralıoğlu, Jonathan Anderson, Maximilian Davis, and Roksanda Ilinčić.
Stephen Jones and Alex Consani Make History with Their Wins
Stephen Jones was named British Accessories Brand for his eponymous brand, making him the first transwoman to win the award. In the Model of the Year category, Alex Consani also made history as the first transwoman to win, beating out other top models such as Alva Claire, Amelia Gray, Anok Yai, Liu Wen, and Mona Tougaard.
Jonathan Anderson Takes Home the Biggest Award of the Night
The highly coveted Designer of the Year award was presented to Jonathan Anderson, who was up against other talented designers such as Chemena Kaftan, Daniel Lee, Demna Gvasalia, Miuccia Prada, and Pierpaolo Piccioli. In his acceptance speech, Anderson thanked those who came before him and paved the way for his success, specifically mentioning Black trans women who have fought for representation in the fashion industry.
