Kiko Kostadinov’s ASICS Sub-Label Novalis Expands with New Protoblast-CMLVIII Collaboration
London-based designer Kiko Kostadinov’s partnership with ASICS continues to grow with the addition of his other brand, OTTO 598. The new Protoblast-CMLVIII is the latest collaboration between the two, showcasing a simplified design and a normcore aesthetic.
The OTTO 598 mascot, a masked man with enlarged eyes, perfectly embodies the brand’s playful and absurd style. This collaboration follows their previous shoe collaboration with Suicoke, which featured a divisive FiveFinger slip-on style with a large “O” insignia.
The Protoblast-CMLVIII, on the other hand, takes a more simplistic approach. It is a remake of one of Kostadinov’s favorite ASICS models, featuring a simplified upper and a geometric midsole. The green leather uppers are adorned with a singular chrome stripe, while black leather accents can be found on the collar, eye stays, and heel counter. The black mesh tongue and touches of green on the outsole and knitted textile lining complete the design.
Both ASICS and OTTO 598 branding can be found throughout the sneaker, with the “OTTO 598” embroidered on the lateral panels and the minimal “O” logo on the toebox in green. The usual ASICS branding is also present on the tongue and collar.
The OTTO 598 x ASICS Protoblast-CMLVIII will be released exclusively on Tuesday, November 26 on the OTTO 598 web store. Don’t miss out on this unique and stylish collaboration between two innovative brands.
