Disney and Formula 1: A Match Made in Heaven

Disney and Formula 1, two giants in their respective industries, have joined forces in a new partnership that has been highly anticipated since its announcement earlier this year. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the debut of their collaboration, and the time has finally come.

Not only will Mickey & Friends be making an appearance at this month’s Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, but the first collection of Disney x Formula 1 apparel is also now available.

The Creative Mind Behind the Collection

Bobby Kim, also known as Bobby Hundreds, has taken on the role of vice president of creative for the Americas at Disney Consumer Products. He has led the creative team in designing the 25-piece Disney x Formula 1 collection, which has been a highly collaborative and exciting process.

We had the chance to catch up with Bobby and discuss the collection, his role at Disney, and the power of collaboration.

The Logical Progression

For those who have followed Bobby’s work for the past two decades, his move to Disney was seen as a natural and logical progression. The influence of Walt Disney and his work has always been present in Bobby’s creative process. The way Walt tied experience to products, entertainment, and storytelling has been a source of inspiration for Bobby and many other creatives.

In fact, Bobby sees his iconic “Adam Bomb” logo as his own version of Mickey Mouse, with its red, black, white, and yellow color scheme. So, it’s no surprise that he has ended up at Disney, where he can continue to be inspired by the company’s rich history and creativity.

A Familiar Collaboration

This isn’t the first time Bobby has worked with Disney’s intellectual property. The Hundreds collaborated with Disney back in 2008, and it was a memorable experience for Bobby. He recalls how Disney approached them because they were parodying Disney’s IP so much. At the time, The Hundreds was a renegade startup brand that didn’t think anyone was paying attention to them.

But Disney saw the potential and approached them with the idea of officially collaborating through licensing. This experience has now come full circle, as Bobby is now working from within the company rather than collaborating from the outside.

A Creative Approach

Bobby’s approach to collaboration with Disney has evolved over the years. He believes that passion and a mutual love for Disney’s IPs are what drive successful collaborations. It’s not just about slapping logos together; it’s about creating a meaningful and emotional connection with the audience.

With Disney’s rich history and lore, every collaboration is intense and carries a lot of meaning and emotion for both the creators and the fans. Bobby and his team strive to create a thoughtful narrative behind each collection, ensuring that it stays true to the essence of Disney’s IPs.

In the end, it’s all about creating something special and meaningful for the fans who will wear the clothes. And with the debut of the Disney x Formula 1 collection, it’s safe to say that Bobby and his team have achieved just that.
