Retired Couple Goes Viral on Instagram with Their Charismatic Outfits and Wholesome Captions

Meet Aki and Koichi, the unexpected influencers taking the Instagram world by storm. With the help of their daughter Yuri, this retired couple has gained over 1.5 million followers on the platform, thanks to their charming outfit check Reels and heartwarming captions.

But their success doesn’t stop there. Instagram itself has taken notice and honored the couple at its inaugural Instagram Rings ceremony, where they received a physical golden ring designed by renowned designer Grace Wales Bonner and a digital ring encircling their profile photo in recognition of their outstanding content.

For Aki and Koichi, this newfound fame has been a whirlwind. They never imagined themselves winning awards at star-studded events or being invited to luxury fashion shows. “We’ve been traveling so much more than we expected,” they shared. “It’s funny because we told the kids we’d only take one international trip a year to Japan to see family and friends, but here we are on a plane almost every month.”

Their journey to Instagram stardom began when Yuri, who has worked in social media for 15 years, posted a video of her mother on her Instagram story. The response was overwhelming, with many praising Aki’s style. From there, Yuri created the account @akiandkoichi and brought her father on board.

But for this couple, it’s not about the numbers or the awards. It’s about family and doing something together. “To be recognized by Instagram for that is truly humbling, and we’re so grateful,” they said.

Despite reaching over 1 million followers, Aki and Koichi still can’t believe their success. “Why us?” they laugh. Coming from humble beginnings as Japanese immigrants, they never imagined gaining such a massive online following. “For us, it’s never been about the number of followers or the awards – it’s about family, about doing this together,” they shared.

Their unique sense of style is a reflection of their life experiences and heritage. When asked about their favorite brands, Aki mentioned Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake, while Koichi named Warehouse and BEAMS. “Easy pieces and good quality,” he said.

Now in their 70s, Aki and Koichi see their style as a culmination of their life experiences – a form of self-expression shaped by their surroundings.
