Atmos and Nike: A Match Made in Sneaker Heaven

2025: A Special Year for Atmos and Nike

The year 2025 holds a special significance for both atmos and Nike. The Japanese chain of sneaker boutiques first opened its doors in Harajuku 25 years ago, while the Swoosh is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic Air Max 95. To commemorate these milestones, the two have joined forces to create the atmos-exclusive Nike Air Max 95 “Harajuku.”

A Fusion of Anniversaries: The Atmos-Exclusive Nike Air Max 95 “Harajuku”

Last week, we gave you a sneak peek of the highly-anticipated sneaker, which draws inspiration from the iconic “Neon” colorway and incorporates unique details like metallic silver embroidery and local iconography. We caught up with atmos creative director Hirofumi “Koji” Kojima to get the inside scoop on this special pair. The Nike Air Max 95 “Harajuku” will be dropping exclusively via atmos and Nike SNKRS in Asia on November 1.

From Fan to Designer: Koji’s Earliest Air Max 95 Memory

When asked about his earliest Air Max 95 memory, Koji reveals that it was the OG “Neon” colorway that sparked his passion for the sneaker industry. He recalls desperately wanting a pair when it first released and credits it as the shoe that got him hooked on sneakers. Without encountering the Air Max 95, Koji believes he wouldn’t be where he is today.

The Influence of Ura-Harajuku on the Design of the “Harajuku” Air Max 95

Ura-Harajuku, a neighborhood known for its diverse cultures, has played a significant role in the design of the Nike Air Max 95 “Harajuku.” Koji, who has been coming to this town for almost 30 years, notes that it continues to evolve and influence style today. The sneaker also incorporates various historic elements to achieve its final form.

Koji’s Favorite Detail of the “Harajuku” Air Max 95

When asked about his favorite detail of the “Harajuku” Air Max 95, Koji points out the hidden Harajuku logo on the inside. He enjoys special details that aren’t visible from the outside and also mentions the design inspired by sketches from Sergio Lozano, the original designer of the Air Max 95.

A Strong Connection: The Long-Standing Relationship Between Nike and Atmos

Koji and Nike have a long-standing relationship that has lasted for 25 years. Together, they have significantly grown Japan’s sneaker culture and consistently conveyed Nike’s appeal to customers. Koji attributes their strong connection to a good friendship and believes it will continue in the future.

Dream Collaborators and Ultimate Grails

When asked about his dream collaborator, Koji expresses his desire to work with top sneaker boutiques to create projects that elevate the sneaker scene for the community. As for his ultimate Air Max 95 grail, he mentions the atmos x Air Max 95 “Animal,” but ultimately chooses the OG “Neon” as the shoe that holds the most significance for him. He also reveals his excitement for the reissue of the all-black leather version of the Air Total Max SC, a shoe that fits his current style perfectly.
