New Balance and Grand Collection Team Up for a Stylish Skate Shoe and Apparel Capsule
New Balance has joined forces with New York’s Grand Collection to drop a new skate shoe and clothing collection centered around the revamped Numeric 770. The collaboration brings the sneaker to life in sleek black and white leather colorways, accompanied by a carefully curated selection of sportswear.
Bringing Back the ’80s with a Modern Twist
According to Numeric’s General Manager, Sebastian Palmer, the 770 was originally introduced during the cross-trainer era, a time when footwear experimentation was at its peak. “In the ’80s, there wasn’t a shoe specifically designed for skating, so we took inspiration from basketball, tennis, and running styles,” says Palmer. Now, with the help of the Numeric skate team, the 770 has been updated with improved stability and durability to meet the demands of both style and function.
A Collaboration That Goes Beyond Fashion
The collaboration made its debut at Paris Fashion Week with a showroom, an off-calendar runway show, and a jazz-inspired skate film shot in New York. “For Numeric and Grand, we’re both obsessed with shape, form, fabric, and true functionality,” says Grand founder Ben Oleynik. “This shoe is the embodiment of all of these things. It can live perfectly on the runway and actually be skated in.”
From the Runway to the Streets
The 770 features debossed co-branding, while the apparel capsule includes a velour tracksuit, polar fleece wind shirt with matching bottoms, and a heavyweight cotton sweatsuit. Each piece is finished with embroidered branding and YKK zippered pockets, creating a clean and understated aesthetic.
A Skate Film to Bring the Collaboration to Life
To showcase the collaboration, a black-and-white skate film was created featuring Numeric and Grand skaters Brian Reid and Spencer Hamilton. The film captures the essence of the collaboration and highlights the versatility of the 770 shoe.
