New CEO Laura Weir Set to Shake Up British Runways

The British fashion scene is about to undergo a major transformation, thanks to the newly-appointed CEO Laura Weir. With additional funding, confirmed show spaces, and more, designers on the main show schedule can expect a boost in resources and support. These changes will be implemented for the first time at the upcoming edition of London Fashion Week.

Out with the old, in with the new – the departure of longtime CEO Caroline Rush marks the beginning of a new era for the British Fashion Council. Laura Weir, the new leader at the helm, is ready to make her mark and revolutionize the UK fashion industry.

One of the first changes announced by the BFC under Weir’s leadership was the decision to eliminate menswear runways in June, in favor of a more comprehensive September schedule. But that’s not all – Weir has big plans to support and elevate British designers on a global scale.

For starters, designers showing their new collections on the main calendar will no longer have to pay fees. This move aims to level the playing field and give emerging designers a chance to shine. Additionally, the BFC’s guest program, which brings international designers to London, will receive double the investment, further solidifying the city’s position as a fashion capital.

But it’s not just about the big names – Weir is also committed to nurturing up-and-coming talent. The BFC’s future NEWGEN designers will have access to a larger show space for the next three years, giving them a platform to showcase their creativity and innovation. The latest class of NEWGEN designers includes AARON ESH, Chet Lo, HARRI, and more.

And let’s not forget about the next generation of fashion leaders – the BFC scholarship recipients. Thanks to Weir’s vision, they will receive more funding than ever before, allowing them to produce more impactful collections and runway shows.

Mark your calendars – the next edition of London Fashion Week is set to take place from September 18 to 22, 2025. With Laura Weir at the helm, it’s sure to be a game-changing event that will shape the future of British fashion. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting developments as we countdown to the big event.
