Maison Mihara Yasuhiro Unveils “Ordinary People” Collection for Spring 2026 in Paris

Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has once again wowed the fashion world with its latest collection, “Ordinary People,” presented at Paris Fashion Week. The range is a dynamic fusion of Frankenstein-inspired fashion that speaks to the current Japanese news cycle. Navinder Nangla, known for his signature “Fassion Weak” motif, has contributed to a handful of the garments, adding his unique touch to the collection.

Masterfully splicing together different garments, eras, and silhouettes, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has created a far-from-ordinary assortment of future-facing apparel and accessories. The designer’s Spring 2026 Paris runway was a perfect example of this, showcasing a mix of familiar and fanciful pieces, blending high fashion with streetwear.

The collection’s title, “Ordinary People,” is a commentary on today’s news cycle, particularly in Japan. “In Japan, it doesn’t take much to make the news,” the designer explained to Vogue Runway. “Things like extramarital affairs and smoking scandals can become national stories, but in the world, there are wars, famines, and so much misery.” The collection is a message to those who just want to live a normal life, in a world where social media can quickly label and judge individuals.

Blazers, suits, and overcoats are paired with sweatpants and cargo shorts, creating a juxtaposition of formal and casual. Half-buttoned Oxford shirts are worn loosely over basic tanks and graphic tees, adding to the collection’s eclectic mix.

Known for his innovative use of the trompe l’oeil technique, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro’s Spring 2026 centerfold is its deceiving jacketing silhouettes. On many jackets – denim, varsity, and Sukajan bombers – the sleeves are split in half, creating a unique and unexpected look.

About a fifth of the way through the runway, a collaboration with British-Indian artist Navinder Nangla is introduced, featuring his infamous “Fassion Weak” motif and other misspelled tagging like “Khaos” and different plays on “Ordinary People.” The collection also includes slogans like “Don’t Tag Me,” imprinted on crewnecks and cardigans.

Accessories play a significant role in the collection, with models carrying catch-all bags shaped like stuffed animals, totes filled with flowers, and donning banana-chain necklaces.
