A$AP Rocky Takes Paris Fashion Week by Storm with Second Collection, “Obligatory Fashion”

Hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky made a triumphant return to Paris Fashion Week with his second collection for AWGE, titled “Obligatory Fashion.” The show was a powerful commentary on the intersection of necessity and style, exploring how uniforms can become fashion statements and how once-stigmatized “ghetto” styles now define luxury.

Rocky’s big week in Paris also included a surprise appearance at Jonathan Anderson’s debut Dior show and the unveiling of his highly-anticipated new album. The collection was set to new tracks from the album and featured a range of garments that challenged traditional perceptions of fashion.

As guests entered the show, they were greeted by masked uniformed men and had to pass through metal detectors lining the runway. This was a nod to Rocky’s recent public trial and served as a commentary on the transformation of practical items into symbols of aspirational style.

The collection featured a collaboration with PUMA, offering a sneak peek at the Mostro Gabbia and a distressed version of the classic Speedcat. Christian Louboutin also contributed select silhouettes, customized with bespoke AWGE charms by Pavē Niteō. The jewelry brand, known for their diamond-encrusted Ray-Bans at the Met Gala, also provided Rocky’s personal jewelry for the show.

The collection showcased Rocky’s signature style, with a mix of tailored suits and oversized bomber jackets. There were also explicit and implicit statements, such as wearable bullet-proof vests and jerseys with the message “Not Guilty, Stop Snitchin.”

The front row was a family affair, with Rihanna, A$AP Nast, and others showing their support for Rocky’s second show. The collection truly captured the multi-hyphenate musician’s fashion wardrobe, with pieces that could be worn for any occasion.
