Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals Unveil SS25 Collection Inspired by Chicano Culture and Mexican Heritage
Featuring Candace Parker, Skyy Clark, and Alejandro Speitzer, the Los Angeles Campaign Showcases the Blend of Chavarria and adidas’s Design Language
Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals have joined forces to create a bold and culturally rich collection for SS25. The collaboration, dropping in two installments on May 8 and July 10, features a range of apparel and footwear that pays homage to Chicano culture and Mexican heritage.
Modeled by Candace Parker, Skyy Clark, and Alejandro Speitzer, the Los Angeles campaign captures the essence of Chavarria and adidas’s design language while honoring the Chicano heritage of South Central LA.
The campaign, shot by LA-based photographer Carlos Jaramillo, showcases the fusion of Chavarria’s oversized silhouettes, classic iconography, and Mexican symbolism with adidas’s signature stripes and trefoil. The collection features black athletic sets with pops of Chavarria’s signature red hue and rose embroideries, a nod to the designer’s previous collections.
In footwear, adidas brings back the iconic 1978-born Jabbar basketball shoe in the form of the Chavarria Jabbar Low and Chavarria Jabbar Dress.
One standout piece from the apparel range is a baggy white sweatshirt with red and green panels inspired by the Mexican flag. The sweatshirt also features prominent adidas and Willy Chavarria wordmarks on the back, with “Chicano” written in Chavarria’s Old English font on the front. The traditional Aztec eagle, a symbol found on the Mexican flag, is placed front and center.
In a statement, Chavarria expressed his excitement for the collaboration, saying “adidas’ place in Chicano culture is a bit of an untold story.” He continued, “I love sharing this iconic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it now. Working with my close friends and extended family on this project in LA was a powerful and personal experience. It allowed me to capture the beauty of our Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop that is home to so many of us.”
The Willy Chavarria x adidas Originals SS25 collection will be available in select adidas stores, the adidas CONFIRMED app, and the Willy Chavarria and adidas web stores.
