Hermès Continues to Dominate Luxury Market with Plans for Increased Handbag Production

The iconic French fashion house, Hermès, has announced its plans to ramp up production of its highly coveted handbags. This comes as no surprise as the brand’s sales have been outperforming its competitors, including LVMH’s portfolio of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Loewe, and Dior.

Hermès Overtakes LVMH as World’s Most Valuable Luxury Stock

Last week, Hermès made headlines when it surpassed LVMH as the world’s most valuable luxury stock, with a market cap of $276.3 billion USD. This impressive feat is a result of the brand’s 9% revenue increase in the first quarter of this year, with growth seen across all regions where it operates.

Leather Goods Lead the Way for Hermès’ Success

One of the main drivers of Hermès’ success has been its leather goods, which saw a 10% rise in sales. This can be attributed to the popularity of new handbag models such as the Médor and Mousqueton bags.

Strategic Moves to Meet High Demand

In an earnings call on April 17, Hermès’ executive vice president of finance, Eric du Halgouët, revealed that the brand had low stock levels at the beginning of the year, particularly for its leather goods. To meet the high demand, the brand has announced plans to strengthen its production capacities over the next decade.

Expansion Plans for Increased Production

Hermès has revealed its plans to open new factories and workshops in France, including a Loupes factory next year, a Charleville-Mézières factory in 2027, and a Colombelles workshop for its Kelly and Constance bags in 2028. The brand will also be opening its Isle d’Espagnac factory this year, which will immediately increase production.

Made in France Ethos Remains Strong

Despite the current trade tensions and tariffs set to take effect on imports to the US, Hermès remains committed to its “Made in France” ethos. The brand employs between 200-300 artisans in each factory and provides an 18-month training program at its apprentice training center, École Hermès des Savoir-Faire.
