Kendrick Lamar Named as Chanel’s Latest Brand Ambassador and Face of Eyewear
Chanel has just announced that they have chosen none other than Kendrick Lamar as their newest brand ambassador and the face of their eyewear line. The American rapper, who made history as the first and only rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize, is set to launch his partnership with Chanel with a highly anticipated eyewear campaign that will be released later this week.
Lamar’s relationship with Chanel began back in 2023 when he attended the Met Gala honoring Karl Lagerfeld. He made a statement at the event by wearing a custom quilted leather bomber designed by then-creative director Virginie Viard. Since then, Chanel has continued to collaborate with Lamar, inviting him and his creative partner Dave Free to design the set for their January 2024 haute couture show, which featured an illuminated Chanel medallion and a short film titled “The Button.”
While Chanel is known for its iconic womenswear, they have also signed on a handful of male ambassadors, including Korean singer G-Dragon and actor Timothée Chalamet. Lamar’s debut eyewear campaign is set to be shot by renowned photographer Karim Sadli.
In a statement about his partnership with Chanel, Lamar expressed his admiration for the brand’s timeless legacy, saying, “Chanel has always been a brand that I can stand behind. And since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it had to be glasses.”
Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s fashion president, also shared his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We strongly believe in the power of eyewear and its potential. It’s more than just a fashion accessory, it’s an essential part of the Chanel allure and is regularly seen on the runway. Our eyewear collection, which incorporates our signature house codes, adds the perfect finishing touch to any look. Through our ‘Chanel & moi’ program, we have developed various services to ensure our clients have the best experience with our eyewear.”
Lamar, who has won 22 Grammys and a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album DAMN, has been making waves in the music industry with his hard-hitting tracks, including his latest hit “Not Like Us.” The 37-year-old rapper also co-founded a creative studio called PGlang with Dave Free and has won six Cannes Lions awards for his creative work.
With his impressive achievements and undeniable talent, it’s no surprise that Chanel has chosen Kendrick Lamar as their newest brand ambassador. We can’t wait to see what this collaboration will bring to the fashion world.
