New Balance and BEAMS Team Up for a Futuristic Twist on the Retro 1000 Model
In a collaboration that blurs the lines between minimalism and maximalism, New Balance and BEAMS have joined forces to release a new variant of the retro 1000 model. This highly anticipated release comes after New Balance’s successful reissue of the 1000 model in 2024.
The Boston-based footwear brand and the Japanese label have taken a monochromatic yet multimedia approach to reimagining the 1999-born runner. The result is a patchwork of various sneaker materials that pay homage to New Balance’s design lexicon.
At first glance, the pair may appear identical, but upon closer inspection, the uppers reveal a spectrum of materials. Textured mesh underlays contrast with smooth suede overlays on one shoe, while the other features smooth leather overlays with a slight sheen, paired with microfiber underlays. Adding to the mismatched aesthetic, each N logo is slightly asymmetrical with a unique 3D finish.
Despite the stark black colorway, BEAMS has incorporated a reflective material in the laces for a futuristic touch. The cobranded logos are also printed on the insoles in the signature BEAMS color scheme.
The BEAMS x New Balance 1000s will first be available in the US at the BEAMS POP-UP LA on Thursday, April 10. Following the US launch, the pair will be available for purchase on the BEAMS web store and select retail locations.
