The Cartier Tank à Guichets Timepiece: A Classic Reborn at Watches & Wonders Geneva
The iconic Cartier Tank watch has been a staple in the world of luxury timepieces since its debut in 1917. And now, at the prestigious Watches & Wonders Geneva event, the brand is bringing back one of its most beloved variations: the Tank à Guichets.
Originally released in the 1920s, the Tank à Guichets features a unique rectangular case with two windows that display the hours and minutes. This design was inspired by the dashboard of a World War I tank, hence the name “Tank.” The watch quickly became a favorite among Cartier’s high-profile clientele, including celebrities and royalty.
But after a hiatus, the Tank à Guichets is making a comeback, and it’s better than ever. The new version boasts a sleeker and more modern design, while still staying true to its original roots. It features a 18k white gold case, a black alligator strap, and a manual-winding movement. And of course, the signature two windows for time display.
Also Showcasing: New Tank Louis, Tressage, Panthère de Cartier, and Panthère Jewelry Models
But that’s not all that Cartier has in store for Watches & Wonders Geneva. The brand is also showcasing new variations of its other iconic Tank models, including the Tank Louis, Tressage, Panthère de Cartier, and Panthère Jewelry.
The Tank Louis, named after Louis Cartier himself, features a more traditional rectangular case with a classic Roman numeral dial. The Tressage model, on the other hand, boasts a unique woven bracelet design, adding a touch of texture to the watch. And for those who love a bit of sparkle, the Panthère de Cartier and Panthère Jewelry models feature diamond-encrusted cases and bracelets.
