French Luxury House Marithé + François Girbaud Teams Up with Streetwear Giant Supreme for Latest Collection

In a major move towards the mainstream, renowned French luxury house Marithé + François Girbaud has announced a collaboration with streetwear powerhouse Supreme. The fashion label, founded in 1972 by designers François Girbaud and Marithé Bachellere, has long been known for its innovative and experimental approach to denim.

The dynamic duo first joined forces in the 1960s at a Paris clothing shop called Western House, where they imported utilitarian dark blue denim. It was here that they began their journey of experimentation, playing with different washes at local laundromats to achieve the perfect fit and fade. Their pioneering efforts paid off when they became the first to introduce pre-washed denim to the market, quickly becoming a hit with fashion-forward consumers.

Marithé and François are also credited with revolutionizing the denim industry through their introduction of treatments like stonewashing and laser engraving, as well as their development of unique constructions and fits. In 1968, the duo opened their own design studio, specializing in denim, moleskin, and corduroy fabrics that were given their signature aging technique for a worn-in look.

Over the decades, Marithé and François expanded their brand to include knitwear, sportswear, children’s clothing, and a specialized leather line, all of which drew inspiration from their initial denim treatment techniques and shapes. In the early 1980s, they made their mark in the American market with their X-pocket construction, which broke away from the traditional five-pocket design.

Fast forward to the 1990s, and the duo introduced their “Shuttle” jeans, inspired by the space cut design. Now, in the modern day, Supreme is bringing their expertise in denim to the forefront with a collection that pays homage to M+FG’s roots. The collaboration features a range of denim-focused pieces, including a Leather Flight Bomber Jacket, Denim Trucker Jacket, Down Puffer Vest, Hockey Jersey, Hooded Sweatshirt, Leather Cargo Pant, Baggy Jean, Sweatpant, Denim Short, Tee, Camp Cap, Beanie, Tote Bag, and Towel.

The collection showcases a variety of washes and colors, while staying true to M+FG’s history and Supreme’s signature oversized silhouettes, camo graphics, and co-branding motifs. This latest collaboration is a nod to M+FG’s impact on the industry over the past few decades, solidifying its place in the mainstream market.

The Supreme x Marithé + François Girbaud Spring 2025 collection will be available globally on April 3 through the official Supreme webstore, with an Asia release on April 5. Don’t miss your chance to snag these modernized denim staples that pay tribute to M+FG’s legacy.
