Loro Piana: A Century of Craftsmanship and Luxury
Since its establishment in 1924, Loro Piana has been synonymous with top-quality craftsmanship. And now, for the very first time, the renowned brand is showcasing its legacy in a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) in Shanghai.
Titled “If You Know, You Know: Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence,” the exhibition is curated by Judith Clark and offers an immersive experience into the brand’s history as a luxury house. It also delves into Loro Piana’s longstanding relationship with China’s goat herders, who have been supplying cashmere for the brand since the 1960s, making the exhibition’s location all the more fitting.
Spanning over 1,000 square meters and 15 rooms, the state-of-the-art galleries at MAP showcase a range of heirloom fabrics, archival documents, 33 custom silhouettes, and artworks from the Sergio and Luisa Loro Piana Collection. Guests can even catch a glimpse of the original thistle machine, a symbol of the brand since the mid-20th century, which was specially transported from Vallero. And for a truly immersive experience, visitors can explore a perfectly recreated quality-control laboratory and a corridor padded and carpeted with the brand’s signature “cashfur” for a tactile experience.
But the exhibition is not just a visual treat. It is designed to engage all the senses, with a distinct scent in the final room representing the mountainsides where the cashmere goats are reared. “If You Know, You Know: Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence” is a multisensory experience that encourages tactile, olfactory, and visual interaction.
The exhibition is currently on display at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai until May 5. Advanced tickets can be purchased through the museum’s website or via WeChat. Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into the world of Loro Piana and discover the brand’s quest for excellence. Because as the saying goes, “If you know, you know.”
