Nail art has taken over social media and can be seen on the hands of many of your friends. It’s a fun way to express your personality and getting a fresh manicure at the salon is a small act of self-care that allows you to relax while the nail tech works their magic. With comfortable massage chairs, soothing music, and a wide selection of polishes, getting a manicure has become a favorite activity for many, including myself. But recently, I discovered an event that took the salon experience to a whole new level by incorporating marijuana into the mix.

I stumbled upon the Mani Pedi Oh So Heady event on Instagram and immediately knew I had to be a part of the marijuana manicure movement. The event offered tickets for a manicure, pedicure, or both, with a VIP option that included a goodie bag. The event was held at a chic salon in Beverly Hills, closed to the public for the night, and promised a pre and post-appointment party. I quickly bought tickets, scheduled a manicure for 6:30 p.m., and made my way to Los Angeles.

Three weeks later, I arrived at the nail salon and checked in with a stylish woman who gave me a lanyard and holographic name badge with my appointment time. She explained that I could freely roam around the salon and enjoy the various e-nails set up at different stations. The nail techs would find me when it was time for my appointment, so I took advantage of the opportunity and tried out some samples from the booths set up at the event. There was even a California-based infused drink company, Habit, offering medicated fruit sodas to guests.

Before I knew it, it was time for my manicure. I had booked a half-hour appointment, so my nail artist wouldn’t be able to do any acrylic work or shaping. I told her I wanted a full marijuana manicure, done while I was smoking, and she was initially hesitant about the time constraint. We compromised and decided on an individual accent nail on each hand with sparkly green polish on the remaining nails. Bong Beauties provided pot leaf nail charms for the event, and I chose two bold gold leaves for my accent nails.

For the accent nails, I ground up a small amount of the herb I had been smoking earlier in the day, and my nail artist placed a few green crumbs and orange hairs on my ring fingernails. She then sealed the cannabis onto the nail with clear resin and added the pot leaf charms to my pointer fingernails. Throughout my appointment, I was offered dabs and assisted with the process while my hands were being worked on. We finished just in time, and I was thrilled with how my new nails turned out.

I spent the rest of the evening getting to know some of the other attendees, who were mostly hipster journalists. Overall, the event was a unique and enjoyable experience, and I left with a beautiful marijuana manicure and some new friends.
