Luar Shuts Down NYFW with “El Pato” Collection

On Monday night, the Financial District in NYC was buzzing with excitement as Luar took over New York Fashion Week with their highly-anticipated Fall 2025 show. Titled “El Pato,” the show was a bass-pumping, high-octane spectacle that left the audience in awe.

Front Row Celebrities and Fierce Fashion

With NLE Choppa, Moses Sumney, and Honey Balenciaga sitting front row, the energy was electric. The runway was scattered with massive Ana bags, adding to the already intense atmosphere of the Financial District lobby venue. And of course, the collection itself was nothing short of fierce, a true representation of Dominican-American designer Raul Lopez’s unapologetic style.

Celebrating Identity and Culture

The collection’s title, “El Pato,” is a derogatory term used against gay men in the Caribbean. But on Lopez’s runway, it was used to celebrate and liberate all the qualities that once made him the target of such ridicule. From constricting hoods that emphasized queer hand gestures to flamboyant suiting that turned corporate drag, the collection was a nod to the ballroom community and the designer’s own identity.

A Tribute to the Women Who Shaped Luar

The collection also paid tribute to the women who have influenced Lopez’s work, including his mother, grandmothers, and sisters, all named Ana. The Ana bags, in particular, were a flavorful and tender nod to these important figures in his life.

For the Culture

Luar’s tagline, “for the culture,” was evident in every aspect of the show. The brand aims to platform voices that support and elevate their designs, creating a design language that is both theatrical and referential to their muses.

Step in with Your Good Foot

Lopez’s mantra, “when you step in, step in with your good foot,” was inspired by the queens on Christopher Street and continues to drive his creative process today. And with the contagious claps from the crowd, fast struts from the models, and total valor of the fashion, a Luar show is always a ball of its own.

Sharp Footwork and Sharp Designs

As evident in the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, Lopez’s footwork is as sharp as ever. The gallery above showcases the fierce and unapologetic designs that graced the runway, leaving no doubt that Luar continues to dominate the American fashion scene.
