Wrangler Collector Releases First-Ever Book on Iconic American Denim Brand

Rikiya Kanamaru, owner of vintage shop Gold Gate and avid Wrangler collector, has compiled his 200-piece collection into a must-have book for denim enthusiasts. The book, titled “Wrangler Archives,” is the first of its kind and offers a comprehensive look at the heritage brand.

In an exclusive statement to Fashion Snap, Kanamaru shared his excitement about the release, saying “This publication is my first step in giving back to Wrangler. Even though I’ve been following it so enthusiastically, there are still Wranglers I’ve never seen before. So, for me, it’s still an incomplete book. I’m waiting for information from comrades who have seen this book.”

Founded in 1947 as a sub-label of Blue Bell, Wrangler’s parent company has been around since 1897. The brand is known for its workwear and casual styles with a Western influence, including their famous Cowboy fit jeans which have recently made a comeback in the fashion world.

Kanamaru explains, “Although Wrangler is one of the three major denim brands in America, it produced fewer items than its competitors, resulting in a wide variety of products. Even collectors are unable to grasp the full picture.” With his book, Kanamaru hopes to preserve Wrangler’s archives for future generations to appreciate.

The “Wrangler Archives” book is available in both a standard and limited edition, with the limited edition featuring a special denim cover and metallic foiling. The standard version can be ordered on the Gold Gate website, while the limited edition can be purchased through Gold Gate’s Instagram DMs.

In 2023, Kanamaru had the opportunity to collaborate with Japanese brand TOLQ on a special Wrangler capsule collection, using three jackets from his collection as references.

To celebrate the release of the book, a special event will be held in Harajuku on February 8th and 9th. For more information, check out Gold Gate’s Instagram page. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of Wrangler history with this one-of-a-kind book.
