The Irony: Theophilio Designer Edvin Thompson’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection
From the 17th floor of New York’s trendy WSA Building, Jamaican designer Edvin Thompson exclaimed, “The irony!” as he showcased his latest collection titled “The Morning After.” The intimate showroom was filled with tailored pieces, a departure from Thompson’s previous collections, and was inspired by the Met Gala theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Thompson’s mood board for the modern Theophilio man featured photographs of his father’s impeccably tailored outfits and grand hats. “I really wanted to focus on tailoring this collection’s menswear, leaning into the Theophilio guy because I feel like he’s been left behind a little bit in past seasons,” Thompson explained.
The menswear pieces were full of personality, with newsboy hats paired with wool trucker jackets and leather trousers, and ribbed knit polos hugging the body over flaring wool pants. The standout lime green corsetted button-ups and pants were a bold contrast to the pinstripe single-breasted blazer and dress trousers in stark white. Each look on the male model in the lookbook showcased the collection’s transformative powers, with Thompson describing it in one word: “Transformative.”
With the Met Gala just around the corner, it’s likely that we’ll see one (or a few!) of Theophilio’s latest cuts on the red carpet. “It’s crazy to think that all of this was developed prior to knowing the theme that we would be celebrating,” Thompson shared, clearly excited about fashion’s biggest night. While his lucky muse is still unknown, one thing is for certain: they will perfectly embody the theme.
