Studio Nicholson’s SS25 Collection: A Fusion of Inspiration and Impeccable Craftsmanship

Founder and creative director Nick Wakeman has once again outdone herself with Studio Nicholson’s latest collection, drawing from a diverse range of sources to create a unique and contemporary line. From new materials to vintage silhouettes, and even local tradespeople and community characters, Wakeman has found inspiration in unexpected places.

In a foreword to the lookbook, Wakeman succinctly describes the various points of reference, from “Noisy Japanese Cotton Nylon” to “Greengrocer jackets” and “Bonded leather.” But despite the abundance of source material, Studio Nicholson manages to distill these ideas into clean, modern garments with an architectural flair and meticulous attention to fabrics.

Wakeman explains, “As always, it began with excitement over fabrics. Along the way, various subplots emerged which have given way to a collection that features a lot of long silhouettes, a kind of softness, and a handful of strong yet steady wardrobe archetypes.” This is evident in the collection’s trousers, which come in white, black, and navy with voluminous legs and matching fabric belts, as well as shorts with extra-deep pleats that extend below the knees.

The outerwear pieces are equally impressive, with a beige overcoat, work jacket, and navy and black leather varsity jacket that are refined with minimal hardware and embellishments, allowing the focus to remain on the materiality. The varsity jacket, styled with classic blue jeans and a white dress shirt, is a nod to Wakeman’s reference to “80’s and 90’s American sportswear.”

In the women’s line, longer silhouettes like the Reva and Enna dresses draw inspiration from ecclesiastical aesthetics. Wakeman mentions an old photo of nuns that was a central point of inspiration, saying, “The details of the construction of their clothing and its kind of severity. An image by Charles Traub of three nuns window shopping in Rome in the 80’s in off-white habits and black headscarves I found myself a bit obsessed by.”

In menswear, subtle details like off-center collars and a belted fastening on the Silas jacket add a touch of modernity to the everyday themes. The SS25 collection is now available at Studio Nicholson’s web store and select retailers, so don’t miss your chance to own a piece of this fusion of inspiration and impeccable craftsmanship.
