Dingyun Zhang’s “PLAYFORM” Collection: A Nostalgic Twist on Traditional Uniforms

For Fall/Winter 2025, designer Dingyun Zhang is taking us back to our childhood with his latest collection, aptly named “PLAYFORM.” Drawing inspiration from his own childhood relics, Zhang combines the playful nature of “play” with the structured elements of “form” to create a lineup that reimagines traditional uniforms in a bold and innovative way.

Bold Proportions, Innovative Silhouettes, and Distinct Fabrics

Zhang’s passion for collecting vintage G.I. Joe toys is evident in the bold, exaggerated proportions, and unique fabric choices seen throughout the collection. Models are replaced with stiff mannequins adorned with camouflage face paint, paying homage to Zhang’s beloved action figures.

Standout Pieces for the Season

The “PLAYFORM” collection features standout pieces such as wind jackets, ultra-lightweight puffer coats, and ski pants. Rendered in a military-inspired palette, these pieces are elevated with utilitarian details like waterproof fabrics, reflective finishes, and camouflage prints.

A Fusion of Structure and Play

Zhang’s collection also explores the use of coated fabrics that mimic leather, sculptural hooded masks, and innovative layering techniques. These elements not only pay tribute to the exaggerated forms of G.I. Joe action figures but also transform them into futuristic, functional pieces suitable for everyday wear.

Empowering Movement, Individuality, and Expression

“PLAYFORM” celebrates the fusion of structure and play, merging the utility of uniforms with the creativity of design. The collection delivers versatile, performance-driven garments that empower movement, individuality, and expression in any environment.
