In Paris on Thursday, Issey Miyake’s Fall 2025 Menswear Show Explores the Intimate Relationship Between the Human Body and Cloth

Issey Miyake’s Fall 2025 menswear show in Paris was a captivating exploration of the connection between the human body and fabric. The collection, created by the brand’s menswear arm IM MEN, was a bold statement of confidence and creativity. The design team, consisting of Yuki Itakura, Sen Kawahara, and Nobutaka Kobayashi, presented their vision at the stunning Le Réfectoire des Cordeliers, a former monastery built in the 16th century.

The show opened with models strutting down a stark white runway, surrounded by massive square panel structures that seemed to come to life and observe the collection. These structures were inspired by a simple piece of cloth, highlighting the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology that is at the core of Issey Miyake’s work. The mastermind behind this spectacle, Japanese artist Tokujin Yoshioka, set the stage for the transcendent line’s march.

The collection was divided into several sub-categories, each showcasing a different textile and shape. The “Fly” line featured coats that could be worn in multiple ways, thanks to the use of often-trimmed selvage and clever button placement. The “Flat Drape” section was all about movement, with square shirts, coats, and trousers bouncing and waving with the models’ steps. The “Wall” series introduced recycled polyester outerwear with unique design details and transformative hoods.

Other notable pieces included the “Heron” voluminous coats made with fray-free Ultrasuede, the “Switch” coats and trousers crafted from 100% plant-based nylon fiber, and the “Metallic Ultra Boa” division, which utilized artificial sheepskin and foil printing for a futuristic touch. Overall, Issey Miyake’s cloth was transformed into sharp, complementary, and textural garments meant to be worn in everyday life.

The show ended with a final sequence of models in monochromatic ensembles, sprinting out the door to live in their Issey Miyake pieces. The Fall/Winter 2025 collection was a testament to the brand’s innovative and boundary-pushing approach to fashion.
