Bianca Saunders: The British-Jamaican Designer Making Waves in Menswear

With her latest collection, “Dichotomy,” Bianca Saunders solidifies her place as a leading force in menswear. The collection, showcased at Paris Fashion Week, explores the concept of parallels and the relationship between movement and constraint. Saunders’ unique androgynous style manifesto has caught the attention of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.

For this collection, Saunders drew inspiration from male Jamaican dancers, studying their repetitive yet intricate movements. This influence is evident in the creases and crunches on new fragmented shirts and ribbed tops. She also incorporated her signature bow-legged Manner trousers and Y-neck long-sleeves, giving them a fresh twist.

Collaborating with artist Shanti Bell, Saunders created a stiff set that added tension to the models’ movements. The juxtaposition between freedom and restriction is a recurring theme throughout the collection, with twisted and tied trousers and knotted bags. These elements were inspired by artist Steven Parrino’s torn and cut-up canvases.

Another source of inspiration for Saunders was Robert Longo’s “Men in the Cities” photo series, which influenced the balance between feminine designs and classic workwear fits in the collection. This balancing act perfectly embodies the collection’s name, “Dichotomy.”
