Dior Takes Pre-Fall 2025 Runway Show to Kyoto, Japan
The iconic fashion house Dior has just announced that its Pre-Fall 2025 runway show will be held in Kyoto, Japan. This is part of the brand’s ongoing strategy of presenting its collections in different locations around the world, following successful shows in Seoul, Mumbai, and New York.
UNESCO World Heritage Site To-ji Temple and Gardens to Host Show
According to WWD, the show will take place at the stunning To-ji Temple and Gardens on April 15. This historic site, which was established in 796, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known as one of the two “guardian temples” of the former national capital and imperial court.
A Tribute to Christian Dior’s Love for Japan
In a statement provided to WWD, Dior expressed its excitement for the upcoming show, stating that it will pay tribute to the brand’s founder Christian Dior and his successors’ passion for Japan. The show will showcase a new chapter that combines tradition and reinvention, highlighting the brand’s continued focus on the Asia Pacific region.
Discovering Dior’s Japanese Inspirations
While Christian Dior is mostly known for his iconic “New Look” that defined post-war Western fashion, his Japanese inspirations are a lesser-known aspect of his story. Dior’s women’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri shared that in the 1950s, the designer collaborated with a Kyoto-based silk workshop and incorporated Japanese textiles into his haute couture collection.
Reigniting Creative Exchanges in Kyoto
Chiuri also expressed her excitement for the upcoming show, stating that Kyoto’s rich history of exclusive craftsmanship and talented artisans makes it the perfect location to present the brand’s upcoming fall 2025 collection.
