Maison Margiela’s Lunar New Year Collection: A Celebration of “The Renewal”
The fashion world is abuzz with speculation about the future of Maison Margiela following John Galliano’s departure. But amidst the uncertainty, the Parisian fashion house is not slowing down. In fact, they just released their first-ever Lunar New Year collection, inspired by the theme of “The Renewal” and honoring the Year of the Snake.
A Fusion of Lunar Transformations and Auspicious Symbolism
This spirited capsule collection from Margiela aims to capture the essence of lunar transformations and blend it with auspicious symbolism. The pieces symbolize the profound connection between vision and reality, moon and earth, and dreams and the passage of time.
Mode Meets Tradition
The collection features a hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt, and a printed silk scarf. The hoodie and T-shirt, in creme and white hues, respectively, are adorned with a simple yet striking “Renewal” graphic across the chest. The design depicts the changing lunar phases around a full moon, embroidered with the Chinese character for “snake.” The silk scarf, on the other hand, draws inspiration from the popular board game, Snakes and Ladders. The border is adorned with the moon’s different phases, while the center showcases serpent illustrations winding across and ascending colorful ladders.
