FINE CHAOS: Where Anime Meets Fashion and Creates a New Vision
Within the world of anime, a safety mechanism has been created. In the fashion world, style guarantees liberation. But at the intersection of these two realms, lies FINE CHAOS.
Geographically situated in the world of Scandinavian minimalism, FINE CHAOS defies the aesthetic norms. With conscientious design and rebellious energy at its core, the brand is reshaping and innovating the fashion landscape.
And now, FINE CHAOS’ AW24 collection ‘Here, After, Eternity: Netherworld’ has arrived at HBX. We sat down with the brand’s creative director, Marc C. Møllerskov, to discuss his influences, creative vision, and of course, good anime. Here’s a sneak peek of the interview:
HBX: Since your last interview with us, how has FINE CHAOS grown?
Marc C. Møllerskov: A lot has happened, especially a lot of milestones. We’ve hosted our biggest runway show with 700-800 attendees. It was amazing to see our brand grow. Our team has almost doubled as well. I think it’s because we are a very atypical Danish brand. We don’t conform to the Scandi minimalism that Scandinavia is known for. Our storytelling and collections are voluminous and maximalist.
HBX: Do you find it challenging to stay consistent with your vision while being based in Copenhagen, surrounded by minimalism?
Marc C. Møllerskov: I feel like we can be pioneers in breaking the norms. We’re very different from the typical Danish brand, but even those who are different from us still compliment us for what we’re doing. We’re not enemies, although sometimes I like to pretend we are for motivation. But it’s all just fun and games.
HBX: How do you, as a Creative Director, stay creative?
Marc C. Møllerskov: I watch a ton of anime. (laughs) I’m also very political, so I stay updated on what’s happening in the world. That fuels a lot of the storytelling in our collections. The political landscape is a major source of inspiration for us. Clothes should be human.
HBX: Your most recent collection is entitled ‘Here, After, Eternity: Netherworld.’ Can you tell us about the design elements of this collection?
Marc C. Møllerskov: It has a utilitarian vibe with an exaggerated amount of detailing and commander-esque styles. For example, there’s a jacket with cargo pockets on the sleeves, inspired by an old WWII jacket. There’s also a hand-knitted vest, representing the scarcity of resources in the FINE CHAOS story, where people have to knit their own clothes.
