Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami: A Re-Edition Collection for the Ages
Get ready fashion lovers, because one of the most iconic collaborations in history is making a comeback. That’s right, Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami are teaming up once again to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking partnership. And this time, they’re bringing back over 200 creations from their original collaboration, showcasing Murakami’s colorful and whimsical take on the world.
The collection is a nod to early 21st-century pop culture, featuring Murakami’s signature blend of Japanese art, sci-fi, anime, and kawaii characters. His vibrant and playful motifs can be seen in everything from paintings and sculptures to films, embodying the intersection of pop culture, history, and fine art.
The collaboration was first introduced by LV’s artistic director, Marc Jacobs, and quickly became a sensation. Together, they reimagined the iconic LV monogram with a kaleidoscopic twist. The motifs were then featured on a wide range of pieces, from leather goods and accessories to perfumes and more.
Now, the Louis Vuitton x Murakami re-edition collection brings these beloved characters and motifs back to life. The Monogram Multicolore, with its signature interlocking LV and floral motifs in 33 different hues, takes center stage. It can be found on popular pieces like the Keepall, Coussin, Dauphine, OnTheGo, Speedy, and a variety of accessories.
But that’s not all – Murakami’s smiley flowers and Superflat Panda character also make appearances on select items, adding a touch of whimsy to the collection. The Attrape-Rêve perfume bottles and Papillon bags feature the iconic Cherry Blossom print, while the Courrier Lozine 110 Fleurs trunk showcases a vibrant mix of colors and patterns.
The collection will be released in two chapters, with the first drop featuring the Monogram Multicolore on City Bags and other classic LV pieces. The second launch, in March 2025, will focus on Murakami’s Cherry Blossom pattern.
