Billionaire Fashion Designer Tom Ford Buys $104 Million Mansion in London’s Chelsea Neighborhood
According to sources from Bloomberg, Tom Ford, the renowned fashion designer and billionaire, has recently purchased a luxurious mansion in London’s prestigious Chelsea neighborhood for a staggering $104 million USD (£80 million GBP). This deal has made the home the most expensive residence to be sold in the UK this year, with the transaction reportedly taking place over the summer.
Interestingly, the previous owner had bought the mansion for a mere $20 million USD (£16 million GBP) almost two decades ago, making this a significant increase in value.
This new London home is just the latest addition to Ford’s impressive real estate portfolio, which already includes properties in New York, Los Angeles, Aspen, Palm Beach, and the Hamptons, worth a total of over $250 million USD (£191 million GBP), according to property records obtained through MSN.
Ford, who previously served as the creative director of Gucci before launching his own label with former Gucci CEO Domenico De Sole in 2005, sold his eponymous brand to Estée Lauder in a deal worth $2.8 billion USD (£2.1 billion GBP) in November 2022. This sale significantly boosted Ford’s net worth, which is now estimated to be over $2 billion USD (£1.5 billion GBP).
Following the closure of the sale and the tragic passing of his partner, Richard Buckley, in 2021, there were rumors that Ford may be looking for a break from the fashion industry. After 13 years at the helm of his own brand, Ford officially stepped down as creative director in April of last year, bidding farewell to fashion with his final collection for Fall 2023. The brand is now led by Haider Ackermann, who took over as creative director in September after a brief stint by Peter Hawkings in the role.
