Carnan Partners with Copacabana Palace to Celebrate Iconic Hotel’s 100th Anniversary
Brazilian streetwear brand Carnan has joined forces with the luxurious Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, known for its sophisticated style. In honor of the hotel’s 100th anniversary, Carnan has created an exclusive collection titled “If Wasn’t For You, Rio,” paying homage to the vibrant encounters that take place in the picturesque city.
Founded in 2018 by Paulo Henrique Carneiro and Breno Fernandes in Rio de Janeiro, Carnan was born from the desire to create fashion that truly reflects the wearer’s personality. Inspired by the laidback and cool essence of Brazilian streetwear, the brand has developed a range of special shirts, pants, jackets, caps, and bags that showcase the beauty of Copacabana Palace and the city of Rio.
“Just like Carnan brings together cultures and references from around the world to offer new perspectives through its products, the Copa is dedicated to honoring its past and inspiring its future, always bringing renewal and modernity to its projects,” says Ulisses Marreiros, the hotel’s general manager.
Opened to the public in 1923 during the bustling era of the Copacabana neighborhood, the hotel was built to be a symbol of luxury and sophistication by the sea. With its eclectic architecture, Brazilian marble, and art deco style, the building has become a rare gem on the famous Avenida Atlântica. This coastal avenue is the most renowned in the city and has welcomed famous personalities such as Brigitte Bardot, Princess Diana, the Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Madonna, and Nelson Mandela. For over a century, Copacabana Palace has been the backdrop for unforgettable encounters, remarkable events, and grand celebrations.
The “If Wasn’t For You, Rio” collaboration pieces feature numerous architectural references and symbols found throughout the hotel, reflecting its more than 100 years of history. To find inspiration, Paulo and Breno delved into the hotel’s past, conducting thorough research and engaging in conversations with the staff. They have incorporated the richness of each detail, hand-painted textures, and the energy that the place exudes into this exclusive collection.
“Rio de Janeiro has always been the stage for great encounters and stories that have shaped who we are. This collection is a tribute to the city that inspires us, that welcomed us, and that gave us the opportunity to build our dream. This collaboration between Carnan and Copacabana Palace, one of the greatest icons of our city, reflects the gratitude that both of us feel for everything Rio has given us so far,” says Paulo Carneiro.
The collaboration also has a philanthropic aspect, aiming to support the neighboring communities around Copacabana. The project has partnered with Solar Meninos de Luz, an institution with over 40 years of experience, and 20% of the profits from the sale of the collaboration pieces will be donated to the organization. This philanthropic group focuses on promoting education, culture, sports, and basic healthcare for children, adolescents, and young people.
