Dingyun Zhang and adidas Originals Team Up for Futuristic New Silhouette
Chinese designer Dingyun Zhang and adidas Originals have joined forces once again to release a cutting-edge new sneaker that perfectly blends form and function. The Kouza, Zhang’s first original model with adidas, showcases his unique vision and pays homage to his heritage.
In an interview, Zhang expressed his fascination with transformation and the idea that things are not always as they seem. He believes that the Kouza embodies this concept, with its oscillation between form and function while maintaining elegance and style.
The Kouza draws inspiration from adidas’ 2008 Beijing Olympics Boxing Boot, featuring ventilated netting underlays at the quarter. However, Zhang puts his own spin on the design with a mid silhouette, exaggerated arch, and oversized heel counter that extends over the pull tab.
True to Zhang’s playful approach to proportions, the Kouza will be released in three colorways: a mostly black version with bright blue laces, a gray version with light blue and tan accents, and a predominantly white colorway with subtle green underlays.
Along with the new silhouette, the partnership will also introduce new colorways for the Dingyun Zhang adidas Samba, including a tonal gray and a brown with orange and white details. The collection will be available on October 15 at select retailers.
