New Balance 1906A “Tech Explosion” Takes Inspiration from the Dancefloor

New Balance is back with a bang, and this time it’s all about the “Tech Explosion.” The brand’s latest release, the 1906A in the “Metallic Silver” colorway, is set to hit stores on Saturday, October 12. And if you’re wondering where to cop these futuristic kicks, look no further than Extra Butter.

The 1906A “Tech Explosion” is a sneaker that draws inspiration from the underground electronic music scene. Creative Director Bernie Gross, who has a background in DJing and dancing, used his personal connection to the 90s dance music scene to conceptualize this eye-catching silhouette.

Gross explains, “This heightened expression of the ‘Tech Explosion’ design became the core theme for storytelling. I found a parallel to the shoe’s distinctive design – which had materials literally breaking out of its conventional paneling – to the rise of indie DJs in NYC experimenting with remixes, blending genres and creating the new soundtrack for a resurging dance music scene.”

For Gross, dance music holds a special place in his heart, as it was a major part of his teenage years before he entered the streetwear industry. He’s excited to see the revival of this moment among today’s youth and how it will influence the evolution of music and street fashion.

The 1906A “Tech Explosion” is an evolution of New Balance’s popular “Protection Pack,” which featured the 2002R sneakers. This new release boasts a double mesh layer with curvilinear synthetic overlays. The deconstructed panels give the shoe a futuristic look, while zig stitching and asymmetrical lacing add to its unique design.

Don’t miss out on the New Balance 1906A “Tech Explosion” exclusively at Extra Butter, both in-store and online, this Saturday. Check out the gallery above for a closer look at these must-have kicks.
