Nike’s Q1 FY2025 Earnings Call: Kobe Bryant Business Quadruples in Growth

Nike, the iconic sportswear brand, recently held its highly anticipated Q1 FY2025 earnings call on October 1st. And the results were nothing short of impressive. CFO Matt Friend revealed that the company’s revenue has seen a significant increase from last year, with one particular sub-division standing out among the rest – the Kobe Bryant business.

Friend attributed much of the success to the growing demand for Nike’s footwear products. In fact, he proudly shared with investors on the earnings call, “Looking more broadly across our product portfolio, particularly in footwear, we see clear indications of progress in accelerating newness and innovation. Q1 revenue from new footwear products was up strong double-digits versus the prior year.”

But it’s not just one or two products that are driving this growth. Nike’s various franchises have all seen impressive growth in the past 12 months. For example, Sabrina, a performance footwear line, has grown five times, while Kobe and AlphaFly have nearly quadrupled and tripled, respectively.

It’s no secret that Kobe Bryant releases continue to be some of the most sought-after footwear products from the Swoosh. In 2024 alone, 15 different silhouettes under the Black Mamba’s moniker were released. And it’s not just the men’s market that is driving this demand. Sabrina Ionescu’s footwear line, which is also under the Kobe brand, has seen a gradual shift in attention towards the WNBA and women’s basketball in general.

This growth can also be attributed to the strong relationship between Ionescu and the Bryant family, both on and off the court. It’s no surprise that the two brands within the Nike family have seen an uptick in sales.

But it’s not just the Kobe brand that is seeing impressive growth. Other silhouettes, such as the “Vomero 5, P2K, and P-6000 [which] has grown more than four times over the past year,” are also contributing to Nike’s overall success.

With this kind of growth and innovation, it’s clear that Nike is on track to dominate the sportswear market for years to come. And we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.
