Inside Paris’ Salons de l’Hotel De Ville: Yohji Yamamoto’s Spring 2025 Collection

At Paris Fashion Week, Japanese craftsman Yohji Yamamoto wowed the crowd with his latest collection, showcased at the iconic Salons de l’Hotel De Ville. The Spring 2025 collection was a stunning display of Yamamoto’s signature style, featuring beautifully tethered, manipulated, reconstructed, and layered pieces that were all designed to summon his muse’s inner child.

“Broken Outfits”

Yamamoto’s creations, which he aptly named “broken outfits,” were a mix of pulled-apart and patched-together constructions. Despite their apparent haphazardness, each piece was meticulously built, showcasing the designer’s attention to detail.

A Fashion Manifesto

Set to a soundtrack of Bach, Gluck, Ravel, Japanese tiles, and Leonard Cohen’s “You Want It Darker,” Yamamoto’s latest collection was a blend of traditional Japanese tailoring and contemporary cutting-room techniques. The result was a fashion manifesto that caught the attention of Paris Fashion Week’s glitterati.

Chaos and Moody Vibes

The collection featured asymmetrical black dresses with sheer finishes and glaring red string, maroon iterations with intricate cut-out details and lace bodices, and gowns that resembled unfinished jigsaw puzzles with textile slabs placed sporadically across the body. Yamamoto’s disregard for fashion “laws” was evident as he mixed knotted yarns, silky materials, cotton slabs, and numbered prints in singular ensembles, creating chaotic yet moody vibes. The color palette was mostly dark, but the final few pieces, including flowing dresses and sleeveless blazers, stood out in a vibrant shade of red.

A Yearning for More

With just 43 looks, the collection’s vivid conclusion left the audience yearning for an encore. And for those who couldn’t get enough, Yamamoto is launching an all-new book in partnership with M/M Paris this Sunday.
