LVMH Acquires Stake in Moncler, Reinforcing Outdoor Brand’s Success
The French fashion powerhouse LVMH has made a bold move by acquiring a 10% stake in Double R, an investment vehicle that holds a significant portion of the popular outdoor brand Moncler. Led by Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini, Double R currently owns 15.8% of the Milan-based label.
Ruffini, who is also the largest stakeholder in Moncler, orchestrated the deal and will continue to lead both Double R and the outerwear brand. With the infusion of funds from LVMH, Double R’s stake in Moncler is expected to grow to over 18%. As part of the partnership, LVMH will appoint two of its board members to Double R and one to Moncler.
“This partnership reinforces Double R’s position in Moncler and provides the stability needed to execute my vision for the future,” Ruffini stated. “Moncler has been one of the most significant entrepreneurial success stories in the industry over the past 20 years. Remo Ruffini’s vision and leadership are remarkable and I am delighted to invest in his holding company to reinforce his position as leading shareholder,” added LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.
Founded in France in 1952, Moncler has become a global sensation, known for its high-quality ski jackets. After Ruffini acquired the brand in 2003, he moved its corporate headquarters to Milan. In 2020, Moncler made another major move by purchasing the Italian luxury label Stone Island for an estimated $1.28 billion USD.
