Rabanne Unveils “Most Expensive Bag” at Paris Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2025
Paco Rabanne has once again made a splash at Paris Fashion Week, this time with the reveal of their highly anticipated accessory for the Spring/Summer 2025 season. And let us tell you, it’s not just any ordinary bag – it’s being hailed as the “most expensive bag” in the world.
The brand’s latest creation comes hot off the heels of their recent dressing moment at the MTV VMA Awards, where global sensation Chappell Roan stunned in a medieval-themed chainmail dress. But now, all eyes are on the 1969 Nano bag, a one-of-a-kind piece crafted by fashion designer Paco Rabanne himself for French fashion icon Françoise Hardy back in 1968.
Made out of 18-karat gold, the 1969 Nano pays homage to the original “most expensive dress” created by Rabanne, which was made of a mix of gold and diamonds. This iconic dress was part of the designer’s debut collection in 1966, titled “12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials,” where he made a name for himself by using unconventional materials like metals, plastics, paper, and gold to create wearable silhouettes.
Now, current creative director Julien Dossena is taking a trip down memory lane and returning to the design roots of Rabanne by reaching back into the archives of the French fashion house. And what better way to do that than by bringing back the iconic “most expensive dress” in the form of a luxurious handcrafted bag?
The 1969 Golden Bag, which took 100 hours of work to create, made its debut on the runway earlier this week. The house collaborated with French artisan jeweler Arthus Bertrand to bring this masterpiece to life, and it will be priced at a whopping €250,000 EUR.
But that’s not all – two other stunning bags also made their debut on the runway, both inspired by Rabanne’s heritage designs. The Handcrafted 1969 Glass Bag features Murano glass pastilles from the renowned Venini glassmaking house in Venice, giving it a beautiful brushstroke marbling effect. And for those looking for something truly unique, the Ceramic Bag is completely constructed out of ceramic discs by Astier de Villatte.
It’s safe to say that Rabanne has once again left a lasting impression on the fashion world with their latest collection, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.
