A Sneak Peek at the New Balance 1906M: Is It Military-Inspired?
A new preview of the highly anticipated New Balance 1906M has surfaced, sparking speculation that the “M” in the name may stand for military. And with the “Fantom Fit” marked uppers, a design originally created for the US armed forces, it seems like the rumors may hold some truth.
The Fantom Fit upper, known for its skeletally engineered no-sew construction, was first introduced in the 2014 military-issue shoe, the 950v2a, made in collaboration with the US Department of Defence. This upper is specifically designed for military recruits, providing ergonomic support and a lightweight feel.
The 1906M takes on a sleek look with minimal overlays, featuring a low-profile webbing. However, it still maintains the signature heel counter, leather toe cap, and chunky arched soles of the 1906R model. The color options revealed so far include the classic chrome colorway and an all-white model, but there may be more variations to come.
Since New Balance shifted its focus to the 1906M in 2022, the 1906R variations have been in the spotlight, with collaborations from partners like The Basement, CAYL, and Action Bronson. The brand even ventured into a more unconventional design with the 1906L, translating the sneaker’s visual language into a formal loafer silhouette.
While the release details for the 1906M have yet to be announced, rumors suggest a launch in 2025. Keep an eye out for updates on this highly anticipated model from Hypebeast.
