Maximilian Davis’ Ferragamo Takes the Fashion World by Storm
The fashion world is buzzing with excitement as Maximilian Davis’ Ferragamo collection for Spring 2025 has hit its stride. The 29-year-old designer, who took over the helm of the Italian fashion house in September of 2022, has successfully merged the brand’s century-old identity with his own unique elements. Drawing inspiration from his Caribbean heritage, his London club days, and his eccentricity, Davis has transformed Ferragamo into a highly sought-after name among fashion enthusiasts.
For his latest collection, Davis looked to the brand’s history in ballet, specifically the intimate moments between founder Salvatore Ferragamo and dancer Katherine Dunham, as well as the custom ballerina shoes he created for Rudolf Nureyev in the 1980s. “I’ve always incorporated different historical eras in my work – eras which feel relatable to me and my heritage,” said Davis. He also referenced the mid-century practice of fitting shoes on Black women in Florence, further highlighting the brand’s diverse and inclusive approach.
The collection is a fusion of balletic codes and Davis’ own personal touch. Practice uniforms inspired form-fitting, twisted and tied cashmere layers, while silk, nylon, suede, and organza opera coats added a touch of luxury. Oversized pieces were influenced by Nureyev’s signature wardrobe, while Dunham’s mid-century aesthetic brought out the sequin embroideries, which were given a contemporary twist with resin finishes.
Davis’ Caribbean flair shone through in frayed stonewashed denim and rubber jelly moccasins, adding a raw and edgy element to the otherwise refined silhouettes. And of course, Ferragamo’s classic leather craftsmanship was evident throughout the collection, with intricate Gancini details on ready-to-wear pieces and the use of the House’s age-old artistry in the Hug bag.
