Inside Milan’s Triennale di Milano: Gucci’s Spring 2025 Womenswear Manifesto

On Friday, fashion designer Sabato de Sarno presented his highly anticipated womenswear collection for Gucci at the historic Triennale di Milano. The same venue that hosted the brand’s Spring 2025 menswear show in June, the museum was transformed into a runway for De Sarno’s grandiose fashion brigade.

The Obsession Continues

With a star-studded front row including Dakota Johnson, Kirsten Dunst, Raye, and Jin, and a soundtrack by Mark Ronson and Julian Dobson, the show was a celebration of Gucci’s heritage and legacy. Through the thematic lens of obsession, De Sarno showcased the brand’s most coveted products, particularly their iconic leather bags.

The Return of the Gucci Bamboo 1947

Among the most beloved Gucci bags is the Bamboo 1947, a leather shoulder pouch with a hand-curved bamboo handle. De Sarno brought back this hero accessory in its original form, with subtle contemporary updates by the brand’s skilled artisans using leather, lacquer, and Plexiglas. Additionally, a special edition of the bag was created by Japanese artists to commemorate Gucci’s 60th year in Japan.

Bamboo Details and Horsebit Motifs

Bamboo details were also seen on a variety of mini accessories, while the iconic Horsebit motif adorned not only the 73 Bucket Bag but also a range of footwear including platforms, creepers, ballerinas, and ankle boots. For longtime Gucci fans, there was plenty of tradition to obsess over.

A Nod to the ’60s

De Sarno’s ready-to-wear collection was heavily influenced by the ’60s, with architectural coats, A-line skirts, and shorts evoking the era’s Space Age sophistication, Swinging London’s youthfulness, and Jackie Kennedy’s timeless style. The iconic GG monogram was featured on formal coats, juxtaposed with casual tank tops and denim. Leather silhouettes acted as powerful armor, while lace dresses and hints of lingerie showcased the Gucci woman’s femininity.

A Colorful Story

The color story for the collection was a mix of bold and muted hues, including Gucci Rosso Ancora, lime green, citrusy orange, white, and grey. To the beat of Fiordaliso’s “Non Voglio Mica La Luna,” the models made a final round through the venue in unison, showcasing De Sarno’s vision for the Gucci woman.

A Moment in Time

Describing the show as “a precise moment in time,” De Sarno emphasized the importance of seizing the moment and living life to the fullest. By breathing new life into some of Gucci’s most beloved silhouettes, he hopes to revive the brand’s former fiscal glory.
