Cross-Industry Collaboration: Travis Scott and Rick Owens Break New Ground with Bespoke Backstage Furniture Concept
Collaborations between musicians and designers have become a staple in the fashion world, but Travis Scott and Rick Owens have taken it to the next level with their latest project. The duo has created a custom backstage furniture concept that is both functional and modular, perfectly complementing Scott’s Utopia album.
In an interview with Architectural Digest, Scott shared his vision for the space, stating, “I wanted it to feel like an extension of my brain – a comfortable and all-encompassing space where I can record, watch movies, chill, and have conversations all in one place.”
The result? The “Tech Glade,” a lounge-studio hybrid made up of rearrangeable seating units upholstered in black French wool army blankets. These pieces, constructed from Batipan plywood, come together to form a dimly lit canopy over seat cushions at the base of each unit.
French producer Damien Quintard, known for his work with Scott, Justin Bieber, and Sade, was brought in to design a studio area that seamlessly integrates into the structure, allowing Scott to work on the go. And as the tour travels to new cities, the lounge components can easily be taken apart and reconfigured.
The original “Glade” was designed by Michèle Lamy, Owens’ long-time creative partner, in 2019. Lamy described the piece as reminiscent of “grassy meadows under a canopy of delicious trees.” The idea to reimagine the furniture piece for Scott’s tour came naturally, as the two had previously collaborated on Scott’s 2024 SNL performance, which featured Owens’ Pompidou bed and clothing.
The “Tech Glade” will accompany Scott on tour until the end of October, after which it will be displayed at a Rick Owens Furniture exhibition at Salon 94 in New York City. The 2025 exhibition will feature new Rick Owens Furniture pieces, as well as existing pieces in new materials, and audio-visual work by the designer. More information about the exhibition can be found at Salon 94’s website.
