Kim Shui Takes on Menswear with a Spectacular Spring 2025 Runway Show

New York designer Kim Shui made her menswear debut at the Spring 2025 runway show, and Hypebeast was front and center to witness the groundbreaking event. The show, held in a contemporary lobby at Hudson Yards, was inspired by artist Matthew Barney’s SECONDARY exhibition, which Shui saw in Paris this summer. The collection featured fragmented and reconstructed designs, reminiscent of the ancient Japanese art form Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold. Models descended a grand staircase, showcasing Shui’s intricate designs to the glitterati of Manhattan.

Shui’s menswear collection featured loose-fitting corsetry, tied with slim leather strings, and intricate gold patterns. Model Jake Fleming sported a brown-yellow corset with regal drapery, paired with masculine leather trousers. The androgynous client was also targeted with a deep-neck sequin tank top and revealing pink trousers, adorned with a silver flower necklace. The line’s final round of corsets, skirts, and eveningwear were adorned with illustrative lilac bouquets, and US Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles closed the show in a blooming bodysuit with a fluttering cape.

Photographer Sarah Schecker captured the backstage moments of the show, giving a glimpse into the designer’s creative process. Shui’s Spring 2025 collection was a true representation of her voguish objective: to go for gold. Check out the gallery above to see the stunning designs, and head backstage with Sarah Schecker below.
