KENZO Takes Us to a New World with Fall/Winter 2024 Campaign

The latest campaign from KENZO, titled “LANDING IN A NEW WORLD,” is a stunning display of NIGO’s love for the otherworldly. With a theme of “earthbound mission for all mankind,” the French fashion house showcases its newest men’s and women’s collections against the breathtaking volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote. This collection serves as a commentary on the exchange of inspiration between East and West, drawing from period and fantasy films.

The campaign, captured by Johnny Dufort and Frank Lebon, was inspired by George Lucas’ use of Akira Kurosawa’s samurai films in the creation of the Star Wars universe. NIGO’s vision pays homage to the legendary director’s hand-painted sets from the original Star Wars trilogy. The result is a visually stunning campaign that transports us to a new world.

The campaign was shot at various locations in Lanzarote, including El Volcanctio, Charco de los Clicos, and Teseguite. Models posed against the rocky landscapes, creating sharp and saturated images that highlight the “alien species that inhabits Earth.” The still images are accompanied by short films scored by Kazuki Ubukata’s i.e.h.a., featuring the campaign’s faces traversing the intergalactic set like Martians.

Throughout the campaign, KENZO’s earthlings are dressed in sci-fi inspired uniforms, including kimono coats reminiscent of warrior capes, billowing faux-fur coats, three-dimensional knitwear, and constellation embroideries inspired by the Edo Komon of 15th-century kimonos. The result is a collection that is both futuristic and rooted in history.
