Awake NY Drops Bold FW24 Collection Inspired by NYC Roots
After a summer full of exciting collaborations and limited edition releases with big names like FERG, Union LA, and Badfriend, Awake NY is back with their highly anticipated full collection for FW24. Paying homage to the brand’s founder, Angelo Baque, and his New York City roots, this collection is bursting with bold prints, patterns, and colors that perfectly capture the essence of the city.
Leading the pack is Awake NY’s first collaboration with Vanson, featuring a striking version of their iconic Star Jacket. The co-created piece boasts a vibrant color scheme of red, blue, yellow, black, and white, with Awake NY’s crown logo prominently displayed on the chest alongside Vanson’s signature motorsport-inspired details. Other standout pieces include jackets adorned with camo and reptile prints, tie-dyed sweaters, printed jerseys, and denim sets cleverly embroidered with an all-over version of Awake NY’s popular “100%” graphic.
According to notes from Awake NY, Angelo Baque drew inspiration from some of his favorite albums for this collection. One of the key influences is Smif-N-Wessun’s 1995 debut album, Dah Shinin’, which Baque would listen to daily during his commute on the A train from Queens to Manhattan. Other sources of inspiration include Sons of Kemet’s Your Queen is a Reptile and the work of author Kodwo Eshun. Fans can expect the FW24 collection to drop at the brand’s flagship store on Orchard Street on Friday, September 6, with an online release to follow the next week.
