claims her as a true fashion icon
Naomi Campbell: The Fashion Icon Who Drives Her Own Destiny
From the streets of London to the top of the fashion world, Naomi Campbell has always been in control of her own destiny. At just 15 years old, she burst onto the scene and became a pioneer of the supermodel era. Through her unwavering drive, determination, and commitment, she has carved out a trailblazing career that has inspired countless others in the fashion industry.
This year, BOSS is shining a spotlight on Campbell’s incredible journey like never before. In collaboration with the brand, the V&A museum has opened a new exhibition titled “Naomi In Fashion,” showcasing her most iconic moments through installations of archival couture garments. Not only does this exhibition serve as a reminder of Campbell’s rise to the top, but it also inspires the current fashion community with the stories and memories behind the clothes.
Continuing the storytelling, BOSS has now unveiled a new campaign featuring Campbell alongside other icons such as David Beckham, Burna Boy, Lee Jong-Suk, Matteo Berrettini, and Gisele Bündchen. In the campaign, Campbell exudes confidence and strength in a sleek pinstriped dress and a bold winter outfit consisting of a leather skirt and statement brown fur coat from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection. This perfectly captures the overarching message of the season: “It’s for life.”
In an exclusive interview with Hypebeast, Campbell discusses her collaboration with BOSS, the importance of staying true to oneself, and the significance of reflecting on her life’s work. “There have been so many pivotal moments in my career, some of them include fashion, and some of them don’t,” she shares. “I have so much gratitude for those opportunities that I’ve been given and the people who have instilled trust in me.”
For anyone familiar with Campbell’s career, it’s no surprise that she credits high fashion designers, artists, and photographers as her notable collaborators. “When I was younger, I was very quiet, so I spent most of my time watching others,” she recalls. “Seeing how these masters worked and how they created is how you learn.”
Her learnings from these designers have been invaluable. By observing how they infused their unique personalities into their work, Campbell found ways to inject more of her fierce, compelling, and confident aura onto the catwalk, single-handedly transforming the way models are viewed in the industry. “I think it was about allowing yourself to be vulnerable,” she explains. “Whatever job you do, you want to do it to your best and give 110% of yourself in making it work.”
In addition to starring in BOSS’ Fall/Winter 2024 campaign, Campbell is also set to release her second capsule collection with the brand later this year, solidifying her status as a true fashion icon.
