Vollebak’s Martian Aerogel Jacket: The Most Advanced Piece of Clothing on Earth

London-based brand Vollebak is no stranger to pushing boundaries with its innovative materials, but with the release of its latest creation, the Martian Aerogel Jacket, they have truly outdone themselves. This jacket is not only designed to withstand the harshest conditions on Earth, but also the extreme environments of outer space. And it’s not just any aerogel being used – it’s a brand new type developed by the same team working on NASA’s next Mars rover.

Back and Better Than Ever: The Martian Aerogel Jacket in New Colors

After selling out in its original ‘Mercury’ colorway, Vollebak is bringing back the Martian Aerogel Jacket in two new colors: ‘Rover Orange’ and ‘Stealth Black’. And for those who missed out the first time, the original color will also be available in limited quantities.

The Power of Aerogel: A Revolutionary Insulator

The Martian Aerogel Jacket is made with a revolutionary material called aerogel, which is three times denser than air and has nanopores 10,000 times thinner than human hair. This makes it nearly impossible for cold air to pass through, making it the perfect insulator for extreme weather conditions. NASA has used aerogel in various spacecraft and spacesuits, but Vollebak is the first to use a new type of aerogel that is flexible, durable, and waterproof.

Combining Innovation and Functionality

In addition to the aerogel, the Martian Aerogel Jacket also features foam insulation and an outer shell made from the same material used in NASA’s hypersonic space parachutes. This fabric was acquired by Vollebak from the British textiles manufacturer Heathcoat, who produced it for NASA’s parachute. This means the jacket can withstand the same physical stress and environmental conditions as a spacecraft’s parachute being deployed at 12,500mph.

Lightweight and Practical Design

Despite its advanced materials, the Martian Aerogel Jacket weighs just 700 grams and features practical design elements such as multiple pockets and a high collar. And while the jacket itself is not waterproof, the aerogel insulation can still provide warmth even when compressed or soaked in water.

Vollebak’s Martian Aerogel Jacket truly lives up to its title as the “single most advanced piece of clothing on Earth”. With its combination of innovative materials and functional design, it’s a must-have for anyone looking to brave the most extreme conditions on our planet – or beyond.
