Last Night’s CFDA Fashion Awards: A Night of Glitz, Glam, and Innovation
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) once again brought together the biggest names in the fashion industry for its annual Fashion Awards. Held at the iconic American Museum of Natural History in New York, the event was hosted by the talented Cynthia Erivo and presented by Amazon Fashion.
This year’s awards were not only a celebration of the top performers in American fashion, but also a showcase of innovation with the addition of the Amazon Innovation Award. The competition was fierce, with some of the most talented designers vying for the coveted titles.
In the American Menswear Designer of the Year category, Willy Chavarria took home the trophy for the second year in a row. Singer Troye Sivan presented the award to Chavarria, who beat out tough competition from Mike Amiri of Amiri, Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode, Thom Browne, and Todd Snyder.
Last year’s recipient of the Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award, Rachel Scott of Diotima, was honored once again. This time, she was named American Womenswear Designer of the Year by Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Other nominees in the category included Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne, and Tory Burch.
In the Accessory Designer of the Year category, Raul Lopez of Luar emerged as the winner, beating out tough competition from Ana Khouri, Stuart Vevers for Coach, Catherine Holstein for Khaite, and Tory Burch. The Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year title went to Henry Zankov for Zankov, who was nominated alongside Jackson Wiederhoeft for Wiederhoeft, Connor McKnight, Presley Oldham, and Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell for Tanner Fletcher.
The night also saw singer-songwriter Erykah Badu being named CFDA’s Fashion Icon for 2024. Photographer Annie Leibovitz was honored with the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Shepard by none other than Anna Wintour.
The full list of winners includes Erykah Badu for CFDA’s 2024 Fashion Icon Award, Hamish Bowles for the Founder’s Award in Honor of Eleanor Lambert, Rachel Scott for Diotima for American Womenswear Designer of the Year, Willy Chavarria for American Menswear Designer of the Year, Raul Lopez for Luar for American Accessory Designer of the Year, Annie Leibovitz for the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Shepard, Stuart Vevers for Coach for the Amazon Innovation Award, Michael Kors for the Positive Change Award, Henry Zankov for Zankov for the Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year, Isabel Toledo for the Board of Directors’ Tribute, and Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli for the International Designer of the Year Award.
