BARZAKH: Redefining Jewelry as a Medium for Human Experience

Aya Ben Amor: The Intersection of Narrative, Craftsmanship, and Avant-Garde Design

At BARZAKH, jewelry is not just an accessory, it’s a means of excavating the human experience through sculptural form. Based in Sharjah, this brand challenges the traditional notions of jewelry by fusing craftsmanship, sustainability, and avant-garde design.

Who is BARZAKH for?

According to Aya Ben Amor, BARZAKH is for those who have a restless need to look beyond the surface and seek what lies beneath. Their creations are not just for those who are drawn to the obscure, but also for those who value intention over impression.

What is BARZAKH’s main message?

Marwan Haredy explains that BARZAKH’s main message is that true beauty lies within what is stripped back, textured, layered, and fractured. Their process often leads them to eroded fragments, where they search for contradictions and silver linings in the spaces between the cracks. This is when art speaks where language collapses.

When was BARZAKH created?

BARZAKH was first conceptualized in 2022 by Aya Ben Amor and Marwan Haredy. With Aya’s background in fashion design and Marwan’s in art and poetry, creating a jewelry brand felt like a natural convergence of their worlds. However, it wasn’t until 2024 that they officially launched the brand with their debut collection, “Howling Through the Threshold.”

Where are people wearing BARZAKH?

According to Aya, BARZAKH speaks to individuals from both the art and fashion worlds. From curators and writers to stylists and designers, people from all over the world, including Sharjah, Dubai, and New York, are drawn to the brand’s meaningful and weighty designs. What’s even more special is how many people incorporate BARZAKH into their daily lives, making it a part of their personal ritual.

Why was BARZAKH created?

Marwan explains that BARZAKH was born out of a tangible frustration with design that felt disconnected and lacked tension and narrative. In a world where jewelry was starting to feel numb and caught in an aesthetic anesthesia, BARZAKH was created to scream back and challenge the status quo. It is a response to the missing element in the industry and a desire to create something that could make a statement.
