Kim Jones Leaves Fendi to Focus on Dior Menswear Director Role
Renowned fashion designer Kim Jones is stepping down from his role as womenswear and couture design leader at Fendi after four successful years. According to Business of Fashion, Jones is making this move in order to fully concentrate on his position as menswear director at Dior.
Fendi has announced that they will be revealing their new creative director in the near future, leaving fashion enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the news.
Jones, who joined Dior in 2018, took on the additional role at Fendi in 2020 during a time when the brand was seeking to revitalize itself amidst the challenges of the COVID pandemic and the loss of legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld the year before. Lagerfeld had been with Fendi for an impressive 54 years, making it a tough act for anyone to follow.
Many critics believe that Jones’ work at Dior Men’s has been more impressive than his contributions to Fendi Women’s, which is not surprising considering his extensive experience in menswear. Prior to his time at Dior, Jones had designed for renowned labels such as Louis Vuitton and Dunhill. Taking on the womenswear role at Fendi was a new and exciting challenge for him, but he managed to elevate the brand with his use of heritage-inspired elements, bold graphics, innovative fabrics, and collaborations with artists.
This news comes amidst a series of significant changes in the fashion industry’s top leadership positions. Most recently, LVMH announced that Hedi Slimane would be leaving Celine, with Michael Rider taking over. Before that, Sarah Burton was appointed as the new creative director at Givenchy.
This development also adds a twist to the ongoing rumors about fashion’s creative directors playing a game of musical chairs. According to sources close to Miss Tweed, it was speculated that Jonathan Anderson would be replacing Jones at Dior Men’s. However, with this latest announcement, it seems like Anderson will continue to lead LOEWE for the foreseeable future, or perhaps he has a surprise move planned elsewhere. Only time will tell.
