NAMESAKE’s SS26 Collection “INNERCHILD” Takes Us Back to the Joy of Youth
The latest collection from NAMESAKE, titled “INNERCHILD,” is a playful and nostalgic exploration of youth, memory, and emotional growth. Drawing inspiration from coming-of-age films like Stand By Me and Jerry Maguire, the brand invites us to reconnect with the carefree joy of childhood.
The runway show, held during Paris Fashion Week, was transformed into a memory-scape with whimsical touches like swim floats and witty signs. Conceptual artist PZ Opassuksatit directed the installation, which featured guests seated on sculptural stacks of swim rings and surrounded by wind tubes printed with phrases commonly heard at water parks. A tongue-in-cheek corporate-style sign reading “Have you ever peed in the pool?” added a touch of humor and vulnerability to the experience, encouraging reflection on shared childhood experiences.
The collection itself features deconstructed uniforms and tactile fabrics that evoke the spontaneity and comfort of childhood. Schoolwear, scout outfits, and sports jerseys are reimagined through a contemporary lens, with subtle nods to childhood notebooks in the form of scribbles, collages, and mismatched patches. The materials used, sourced from Japan, Taiwan, and Italy, are layered with technical innovation, including fast-drying finishes and thermoregulation. Watermarks, oceanic jacquards, and playful stripes add a tactile element, reminding us of carefree days spent by the sea. The brand describes these pieces as “soft armor for the soul.”
Accessories in the “INNERCHILD” collection serve as tangible tokens of adventure. Bags merge references from nautical kits and vintage gym holdalls, while small leather charms echo champion flags and medallions of victory. Footwear continues this narrative with suede finishes, waxed-rope textures, and 3D-printed soles designed for movement. The collection also features the HUGO FORWARD x Zellerfeld recyclable loafer, a made-to-order shoe that reinforces the collection’s ethos of spontaneity and thoughtful design, ensuring that every step becomes part of the story.
